Group Trip to Pangkor

Friday morning on the 6th of July 2007, my department and I set out for Pangkor Island.Well, not exactly Pangkor but we were setting out for Lumut (a place near Pangkor) at about 8am. As usual, having to wake up during the wee hours of the morning was a pain but I managed to get ready in time and got to my office ahead of schedule, where the bus was already waiting for us. Being a Malaysian, I had to have breakfast - none other than the typical Malaysian morning 'mamak' breakfast! :)

I brought my storybook, which I bought about 3 months ago and unfortunately had no time to read due to work. So I figured it was the best time to catch up on my books. But I did not really get much of a chance to read on the bus because it was filled with team building activities. At first I wasn't too fond of those activities because it was getting in the way of my book but it turned out to be pretty amusing. Because we were heading down to Lumut, and being near the sea and beach, the theme for the trip was 'Pirates of Loomoot'. So the first team activity was to create a chant for the team and create a team flag. After doing all that, we had to chant it out in front of everyone and yes, it was done in a public area - one of the rest areas by the highway.

Along the way in the bus, we had brain teasers that required some brain cracking (ironic, considering a holiday is to RELAX the mind and not STRESS it!). But I admit, it was quite fun to try some games like that with some team spirit added to it.

We had two sets of treasure hunts, since we made two stops at two different tourist spots. This one was pretty interesting - how it worked was that each team were given clues to finding a shop name. The clues included anagrams, jumbled words that should point us to exactly which shop the clue is referring to. Each of those hunts took us about an hour or so in the hot sun; wasn't so bad for me but most of the girls definitely did not like the heat!

By the time we got to the resort it was about 6pm and, me and some of my friends headed out for canoeing. That was really fun. I was a little bit nervous at first since I have never done it before but when I got the hang of it, it became a lot easier and less frightening. However, it was quite tiring having to paddle left and right trying to balance the canoe and keeping it from capsizing.

After all the travelling on the bus and some fun canoeing, it was dinner time. Dinner was less impressive since the food was not as good as most of us expected. The grilled seafood did not taste so good - more accurately it tasted like it was not cooked well. So I skipped most of the seafood and went for other more cooked stuff. On top of that, the lamb and beef they surfed on the buffet table were as hard leather and as bouncy as a rubber tyre! But, there were other better fried stuff on the buffet table which I gladly feasted on, plus pretty good tasting desserts.

Here are some of the photos I took during the dinner:

THE LAST PHOTO is the group photo of my team, that won the treasure hunt! Alright, alright, maybe the first two photos were quite unnecessary but hey, it's all about fun rite?

Early morning breakfast at a mamak store!

affiliate program Morning breakfast looks like this from the table. A quiet spot just outside the restaurant, cooling and comfortable. :) Mornings are a good time to have quiet time to just reflect on things and just let the mind relax before starting it off. Like any other Malaysian, food is of imperative importance! After all, can't let the mind work on an empty stomach now can we? Thosai Masala is definitely the way to go to start one's day off! Healthy food and plenty carbohydrate from the potato mix inside it. Hmmmmmm.......... mix your mouth all wait eh?  affiliate program

the price of love - take 3

Deep down inside each and every one of us lies an innate power to do things for another person. Some things that can be beyond explanation, sometimes even silly and sometimes just really impossible to imagine. What I am referring to really is the ability of us human beings to care for someone else. Actually if you think about it, all living beings on this planet show the innate ability to care for one another. It's amazing how one person can show so much care to another person without requiring a reason. I definitely admire those who are able to care for another person selflessly. I may not know my ability to care for another person but I know I'd give it a good shot in caring for someone I love - parents, siblings, girlfriend. Personally, I think the will to care for another person will come naturally like the rainbow after a rainy day. I think inside us resides a little vault of emotions that entwines itself to form a chemistry of emotions that manifests itself as a plethora ...

Entrepreneurship....

Every now and then, some people make it big time in the business world either from, pioneering a fresh new business strategy to improving something that is thought to be already at it's best. Entrepreneurs can be found in virtually any part of this world. I guess, when you think about an entrepreneur in a global perspective, the first few people you might think of would be - William H. Gates who founded Microsoft, Steve Jobs who brought to us the iPod or even Warren Buffet arguably the best investor in THE world. Bring it down to a narrower perspective, the local scene - Tony Fernandes co-founder of AirAsia and Teh Hong Piow founder of Public Bank Berhad (equivalent to a PLC), and of course there are many more! I guess, there are times when we sit down and ponder, "how exactly did these people turn out to be who they are?". Were they born with such innate ability? Did they have parents that constantly gave them inspiration to be their own boss? Did they have a natural eye...
